[sauna] A vast sky brings a deeper sense of relaxation. Sauna & Spa Tenko no Yu ~ Gifu Prefecture

Sauna & Spa Tenko no Yu
“Are saunas really that different?” When asked, I answer with a slight grin: “A sauna with a view of the sky is kind of unfair.”
Tenko no Yu, located in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, is a relaxation theme park disguised as a “regular super sento.” I think the reason I feel so excited even before entering the sauna is probably because of the vast sky.
The first thing you notice upon entering the building is the relaxed atmosphere. There’s no sense of rushing. Your body begins to understand, “Ah, today’s a day where I don’t need to rush.”
And then, once you head to the sauna—this is where the real action begins.

First, the conclusion: This place has an excellent “pathway to relaxation.”
What’s amazing about Tenko no Yu is that the flow from sauna → cold bath → open-air bath is incredibly natural.
The golden route that sauna-goers seek is achieved almost unconsciously.

A thoroughly hot sauna, a pleasantly warm cold bath, and an open-air bath with views of the sky.
What happens when these three things are seamlessly connected?
My brain feels a little messed up.
In a good way, of course.

Pre-sauna state (this is what most people are like)
This is what we’re like before we arrive.

  • Stiff shoulders, too much smartphone time, a cluttered mind, and a cloudy, drowsy mood.
    In other words,
    Full modern gear.
This is where the Tenko no Yu bath begins.

Physical changes during the sauna experience
First, you enter the sauna.

The heat gradually spreads. After about five minutes, you start to sweat.
Up to this point, everything is normal.
But after about ten minutes, your body starts to say:
“You don’t need to think about anything else.”
Your thoughts become increasingly simple.

  • Hot, sweaty, and comfortable.
    Just three things.

The miracle that happens in the cold bath
And then you enter the cold bath.
Splash.
This is when most people start to scream.
“Ahhhhhh!”
At this moment, a switch in your body flips.
Your blood vessels constrict. Your brain wakes up.
But it’s not the real deal yet.

The “famous thing” you experience with open-air bathing.
Sit in a chair. Look at the sky.

Feel the breeze.
Then something happens inside your body.
・Feel light and airy・Your vision is clear・Your heart rate calms.
And then it arrives.
Totonoi.
It sounds cheesy when you put it into words, but it really is a little legal trip.

Pros
① Open-air bathing feels amazing.
The sky is vast. This alone changes the quality of the experience.
② The sauna is nice and hot.
No disappointment like “It’s lukewarm…”
③ The entire facility is spacious.
Even with other people, it doesn’t feel cramped.
④ It’s easy to come.
There’s no tension like in a high-end sauna.

Cons
I’ll be honest.
① It gets crowded on weekends.
The fate of a popular facility.
② The risk of becoming addicted to saunas.
Once you experience “totonoi,” you’ll want to come back.
In other words,
The swamp.

The body and mind after the experience
By the time you’ve finished a few sauna sessions.
You’ll remember who you were when you first arrived.
・Your shoulders feel lighter・Your breathing is deeper・Your mind feels quieter
And the biggest change is
Your mood.
For some reason, you become kinder to the world.
For some reason, you also feel like politely saying “thank you” to the convenience store clerk.

If you haven’t been yet, let me say this.
You should try it at least once.
You’ll probably think this on your way home.
“I’ll come again.”
A sauna isn’t just a place to sweat.
It’s a place to reset your mind.

Finally
The next time you feel tired somewhere, I want you to remember this place.
And for that time —
Keep this page safe.
Your future self will surely thank you.
